A belated congratulations to all Master Athletes who competed at AAI 123.ie Masters Champs in Athlone on Sat 8th Mar. Some Athletes were using this as a final tune up in preparation for World Masters Indoor Champs & indeed we had many Athletes travel over from the UK plus some from Estonia competing on the day. Clare Elms of Kent A.C., one of the UK Athletes competing made the trip worthwhile when smashing the F60 3000m Indoor World record by slicing 5 seconds off Fiona Matheson’s of Scotland existing record. Edel Maguire F65 of Clonliffe Hrs was also in record breaking form, when setting a European Masters record of 29.97 in the 200m, shaving 0.01 off existing record. Doing it Sergey Bubka style. Both of these records are subject to ratification. A big thank you to all the Officials involved on the day. Despite some technical issues, which delayed the start of track events by over 30 minutes, the programme ran smoothly throughout the day & indeed time was made up over the course of the afternoon. Many of these Officials were also volunteering there on Sunday at U23 Champs, so hopefully all Athletes are appreciative of their commitment & time. Full results available on the link below. There were 18 new Irish Mastersrecords set which have been updated to IMAA site.
Whilst the Indoor track season might have drawn to a close for many of those competing last weekend, focus of attention for some more will now turn to World Masters Indoor Champs which will run from 23rd Mar to Sun 30th in Alachua County, Gainesville, Florida. For further details please see https://wmaci2025.com
Back on the home front, next AAI Champs will be the National 10km Road Champs which will be hosted by Dunboyne A.C. on Sun 23rd Mar so wish the hosting club every success with this first Road Championship of the year.
Would also like to point out that Dublin Athletics Graded Leagues registration will open on Mon 17th Mar, am sure Ronan has already a few Masters WRs in sight & will be calling upon Athletes to make up Teams. Please see https://graded.dublinathletics.com for further details & entry.
