A big thank you to all the Athletes, many who travelled long distances, to set up these incredible new records. A special word of thanks to Ronan Gately, who master minded the whole event & cajoled many of the athletes to toe the line. We know that he has many more records in sight, so be prepared for that contact or phone call. Thanks also to David Matthews who facilitated & set time aside on a very busy programme of events plus also to Michael Cornyn, who provided commentary throughout plus also conducted interviews with many of the Athletes afterwards.
Also delighted to share the news that Annette Kealy W55 of Raheny Shamrock was named Master Athlete of the Year 2024 by Leinster Athletics over the weekend. Annette had a phenomenal year yet again, winning 2 Gold medals & 3 silvers at World Champs & 3 Gold medals at European Masters. Add to that British & Irish Masters CC Champ plus numerous National titles. Annette was also one of our nominees as AAI Master Athlete of the Year for 2024, in which John Mac Dermott claimed the title. This just goes to show the depth of performances achieved by our Master Athletes.
A final reminder re IMAA AGM this coming Thurs night 20th Feb. This will be via Zoom & Lucy will provide a link over the next few days & we will share this, once available.
We are also pleased to announce that Lucy Moore Fox will once again host a seminar on Fri 28th Feb @ 7pm, courtesy of Weightlifting Ireland. This is an ideal opportunity to tune in & educate as to the pitfalls on any prescribed medication plus also, more crucially, what supplements should be avoided or are safe to use. We have had Testers attend at AAI Masters Indoor Champs over the past 2-3 years in Athlone, so it is vital that all Athletes are fully up to date with latest WADA rules. Remember, ignorance of the rules will not be a valid excuse. The onus is on you the Athlete, to be fully compliant if taking any medications & to obtain a TUE, if necessary. We would strongly recommend that as many as possible avail of this opportunity to tune in. Please email Lucy @ lucy.moorefox@gmail.com & she will be happy to forward on details in advance of the presentation.
George Maybury,
President IMAA
